ha,ha,ha. :) the benefits for free. It is easy to put your house up for sale fsbo, why would you want mls? Oh I see, you want professionals to bring you preapproved buyers so they will overpay for your dwelling. Get a listing broker or sell yourself, cut the crap.

If realtors had any balls they would stand up to NAR, their local association and demand lower fees to access the MLS. Unfortunately they keep paying "union dues" to support a system that is under serious challenge. Why is it that sites like Zillow and many others can make it without charging crazy fees to list or post a home for sale and realtors have to pay for their own "private" version?Wake up realtors. Force your local association to lower MLS fees. The software programs already exist and have for years, so there is no reason to keep paying as much as we do. Except of course to justify the high commission rates we collect while hiding behind all the expenses we incur.

You don't. Multiple Listing is not a type of listing, a multiple listing service is organized within a geographic area by a group of brokers who agree to distribute and share listing information.

MLS = "Multiple Listing Service." One must be a licensed realtor whose dues are paid up to use the service. Before MLS, realtors had to call one another to arrange showings. (even before cell phones!) The MLS is a tool we use to keep up with the constantly changing inventory. We access the site 24/7 to add new listings, change the status, change the pictures, add links to documents, etc.
If you elect to go with a discount broker to get your MLS number, be sure to check it daily to make sure the information is correct and what you paid for is what is entered into the system.

First you'll have to attend classes (at a bowling ally or airport)
swear in and take your oath (fingers crossed)
thentake training in the computer systems so you can maneuver aroundeffortlessly (you registered for zillow? congrats... CLEAR!)
...one of the classes will show you how to input alisting. (if only there was like a standard form and a place to upload photos so that all of the mls listings turned out the same...)
then pray or start marketing to insure it sells(did he ask that?)
oh and lisa forgot 1... pay the MLS fee(varies by MLS) thats really the most important part... otherwise you wont be able to see the MLS, let alone add to it
But WAIT! there is another option...
hire a RE attourney or flat rate broker to do it for you for 50-100 bucks... sorry only people with RE licenses can access MLS' databases, write your congressman, its an unfair buisness practice, i agree.

How do I create a MLS number without the help of a realtor?
