Open the home details page and look for edit by the little yellow pencil just below the description. (see the screen shot below)
If the tax assessor counts the finished basement in the square footage, you should be fine. Below grade square footage adds much lower dollar per square foot value than above grade space.
A Zestimate is an estimated valuation based on identical information about homes (e.g., beds, baths, square footage, lot size, tax assessment, prior sale price). It's important that the algorithm itself be consistently applied to all homes in a similar manner. There is no way for Zillow to systematically gather and verify that type of remodel or build information, which is why the algorithm can't use that information.

I can't find where it says edit on the zillow page.Other houses on the street that are exactly the same as mine are listed with 2500-3100 square feet depending upon how much of the downstairs is built out. Our downstairs rooms are nicer than those upstairs and were built in when the house was constructed

The first step is to claim your house on Zillow. To do so, open the home details page, hover your cursor over "edit" and then chose "claim your home". (Note: If listed for sale by an agent, or by you from another website, this won't work.)
The second step is to hover cursor over edit and chose "edit home facts" from the drop down list.
In most states, finished basement space is not counted the same as above grade space. How does your county assessor measure it?

How do I edit facts about my house
The square footage of my house is 2550.At one time it was correct on Zillow but for some reason you changed it. We have 3 built out rooms in basement
