By calling the Landlords and asking them if they provide a month-to-month lease.

Month-to-month may sound safe for you as a tenant on the go, but explain to me why you prefer this. If you only will be in town for a month or two then I get it. If you are looking for a home to buy and don't want a lease obligation, I understand this as well and many landlords will also unless they are getting multiple applicants looking at the rental. IF on the other hand you are worried about your job, the area, or ? , then consider renting a room from an owner. For all the effort it takes to move into a home and then out again a month later...it makes little sense. A 6 month or 1 year lease protects the tenant more than the landlord in most cases, so unless you fall in the above cases, I think you should be ine. Good luck!

Some landlords may like that, but you have to be upfront with your needs and timeframes. I would shoot for mo-to-mo after x amount of months. Ask each and every landlord, you never know. If all else fails, try looking for a FURNISHED rental, most are short term, ie Oakwood apartments . . . .

I see you are in Encinitas. What is your criteria other than month to month?
