How do I find out if a lot for sale has actually closed?

The marketing sign for the development says the lot is sold but how do I find out if it has actually closed?

You look it up in the public records. They may be available online.

Have a Realtor help you. All information is on the MLS (the actual one where Realtors all go to input their listings). Can find out in a couple minutes.

If you want I can take care of that for you.

Thank you for your answer. But I am looking for a concrete documented way to find out the answer.

Often an agent will place a sold sign on a property that is just under contract and has not yet closed. When it does close the new owner usually wants the sign gone so to get some pre-sold attention agents put up a sold sign on the for sale sign.

The easiest way to find out is to call that number on the sign and ask. Anything else is like shooting in the dark.
