How do I find out if my mortgage loan is backed by either Fannie or Freddie?

I have a mortgage with Wells Fargo. I also have a pretty high rate and would like to refinance but I'm not sure if I qualify for the HARP Program. Can you help?

Go to the FNMA and Freddimac websites and plug in your information to see if they own the loan.  Contact me if I can help you with mortgage financing in CT.

To be eligible for either program your loan would need to have funded/closed by 5/30/2009.  If it did go ahead and check sites Michael posted.

Here are the following websites that you can check to see if Fannie or Freddie backs the loan:

https://ww3.freddiemac.com/corporate/index.html

https://www.knowyouroptions.com/loanlookup

These engines are fairly "touchy" so you need to enter the information exactly as it appears on your mortgage statement or original mortgage documentation.  Also, please be aware that in order to qualify for the HARP programs, Fannie or Freddie need to have backed the loan before June 1, 2009.  If you purchased or refinanced on or after June 1, 2009, you unfortunately will not qualify for the HARP program.
