easy...see if a notice of default has been filed, and you'll be on the right track. 



It's public record.  Contact a local clerk of the court.  They'll steer you in the right direction, or contact an experienced realtor in your area.  

It's public record, and it's VERY easy to find...most counties have such records posted online for free.
