This is a tricky area. There are so many restrictions on what your agent can or cannot say about neighborhoods without crossing a line where they might be considered prejudiced for one reason or another.  In fact, they are instructed that if they are showing homes and lock the car when they go in, they have to lock the car at every home.

They also are limited by the fact that they are often representing the seller and no seller wants the agent telling a buyer that this is a "high crime" neighborhood.

So your best bet is to talk to the local police department.  Just tell them that you are considering a home at a certain address and ask how the crime rate in that neighborhood compares to others in the city.

I know here in Fremont, it is the Police department that inputs data into https://www.crimereports.com/ and it is probably the case in San Jose. Not all cities use crimereports.com, but most bay area cities do.
When using the site, if you try to pull a year's worth of data you will end up with a screen filled with report symbols.

When I used it several months ago, I thought Willow Glen had a lower property crime rate. Keep in mind no area is without crime. It is just a fact of life. You might also notice that the areas with better schools have lower crime.

Last, no matter where you go, I would always advise that you join a neighborhood watch group, and use an email group to enroll residence in that neighborhood. You can use this to help track activity and notify neighbors when something happens. You can also use it to request your neighbors to check their video footage.

The entire map will be completely filled with crime reports. Best source is Police Dept.

As long as there are residents there will be crimes. That includes the most exclusive neighborhoods.

This is awesome site that gives great information on crime in your neighborhood:

https://www.crimereports.com/

Also, there are other sites out there that provide crime heat maps, which can be useful as well.

Call the local police department and ask for Community Affairs. They should be able to give you answers to your questions. If the local police department does not have a Community Affairs officer, ask for the Detective Bureau Supervisor.

Crimemapping.com has helped me. I don't know if they show all areas but it does show about a 6-7 month time span and what type of crimes.

The local police department might be able to give you a detailed report from a certain time frame you are looking for, but if you want to see more recent crimes in your zip code, you can go to https://www.crimereports.com/ and enter your address or zip code.

I always recommend that my clients call the local police dept. in the area they are considering living.
