Most info like that is public record and available for free online or by phone. Depending on the state, county and town I would do a search in the following places:
-The county registry of deeds
-The town's online assessor's database
-Call up the zoning department of the town and ask them to look it up for you. Even better if you can go direct and ask them to make a copy of it for you.
