When you say worth, I'll assume you mean it's 'street' value and not a number made up by an appraiser. If that is the case, then talk to a few accomplished local agents and ask them to give it to you straight, no chaser. And then remember the number they give you is today's number, not 2 months from now. Oh yeah, there's the zestimate too!

If you mean what can you sell your house for you can contact a local agent and they can run an in depth comparative analysis to determine a reasonable sale price.

Interview local real estate professionals.  They will be able to provide you with recent comps that will enable you to correctly price your home.  Interviewing more than 1 will allow you to also determine if the agent you first select is the right one to sell your home.

The 1st step is to contact your local real estate professional. He or she can sit down with you and go over the comps in your area. Comps are the properties currently on the market, in escrow or recently sold. In today's market, the homes on the market now are a good indicator of where your home should be priced. If your same floorplan is currently on the market for $500,000 and it has been on the market for 75 days, then you know right off the bat that your home should be priced under that $500,000 list price of your neighbor's home. Consult with a Realtor who is an expert in your area, though. All the best. Good luck

Our readers start that process by checking out the market stats on our blog, then they usually email or call us to find out more.

Jackboots - I assume that since you are on Zillow you mean how do I find out what Zillow thinks my house is worth.

Type your address in the search line at the top.  Your home will come up with its associated zestimate (arguably not accurate but nonetheless interesting)

Contact 2 or 3 'active' Realtors.   Ask their opinion as to what you should price your property at to get it sold in 6 months?, in 3 months?  and in 1 month?  Ask each Realtor to do a CMA (comparable market analysis) which is like a lay person's appraisal, and to present the data to you in a formal manner.  Then pick the Realtor you find most convincing and list your property with that Realtor...and get going !
