How do I find out who owns a house?

I am interested in finding out who (or which bank) owns a house in our neighborhood that has been vacant for a year now. It had been listed on the real estate market 6 months ago, but now no longer has a listing. I am hearing rumors that it is a bank foreclosure, but have no idea how to find out which bank owns the property. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Try looking here on NJ public records

Most States have the public records online by town / city or county etc. You can look up if there have been any transfers of title on whom purchased the property and the property deed. If this is no help, then keep an eye your local newspaper for announcements of pending foreclosure. Let us all know how you make out good luck.

Best,

Eric

The local assessor or recorder's office in your area will have the owner of record. Sometimes in the case of banks the ownership trail gets more complicated, but it is your best shot at finding out the status of the property. You could also try a local title company. Some will do a preliminary title report for a small fee.
