Just about any real estate agent can easily provide this kind of information. You can almost always find it on line through you're county real estate tax records as well.

Different states and even different counties will have different answers to this question.
Here in Chicago we have several ways of researching that sort of information. For Realtors it is readily available to us via the MLS. As an Attorney I often use the County Assessors website.
For document history (mortgages, liens, etc) ccrd.info is a great resource.
And for tax status realist is a powerful search engine which, with a little practice, can deliver comprehensive results.
If that's too much information remember, as realtors it's our JOB to know these details. Call me and I can get you the information you're looking for.

Cape Cod Lady,
I would start at the Town Hall in which the property is located and visit the Assessors Office. If you are computer savvy, follow Eric's advice and search Barnstable County Public Records.
Click link: http://www.barnstabledeeds.org/
Search public records on the right side links bar. Good luck!

The Massachusetts Registry of Deeds has all the sales recorded data on the property you would be interested in. MassLandRecords.
You just select which county the property is located in and then search by owner/address etc.
Hope that helps.

In most areas this is public information that is available either on your local assessors website or at their office. An agent has access to this information and if not a title company definitely does.
How do I find the former transaction/sale dates and amounts of a home?
