Most of the information you need should be available at your county recorder's office. Depending on your needs, I would not trust any information other than what you receive from your county, or local government.
If your property has been surveyed and staked, you may be able to use a metal detector to find the stakes at the corners of your property. If your property has not been surveyed, it may be wise to spend a few hundred dollars for a survey, especially if you are planning to build close to a property line.
