How do I get an appraisal and how are online sites updated with that information?

My house was purchased in 2004 for about 140K and a huge renovation was done for approximately the same amount. We added bathroom, 2-car garage, pool, renovated kitchen and floors and beautiful landscaping around the property.
Online sites have the value based on purchased condition, 1 bathroom, no pool, etc. How do we get a professional appraisal and how do we get the site to update this info and reappraise? Thank you very much.

I agree with WetDog.  Don't spin your wheels trying to "correct" Zillow.  No one in the industry utilizes or relies on Zillow as a source of valuation.

When you are ready to market your home find a real estate professional who is familiar with your subdivision or location.  They will be able to establish value based on comparable home sales.

The cost of renovation does not necessarily equate to value.  The price similar homes are selling for in your area is what determines how much your home is worth.

Firstly, you can go here to find an appraiser in your area. Call around and price it out.

What Zillow says matters little to what your home is worth, so I would not spend the money simply to up the Zestimate. Follow Wetdawgs suggestion though to correct any incorrect info Zillow may have.

Your home is worth what its worth, regardless of the Zestimate, or for that matter an appraisal. Youll only know what its worth when you sell it, not before.

To get an appraiser, you will need to hire an appraiser.   You should be able to find some in your phone book or in an internet search.   It will cost probably several hundred dollars.

You can claim your home on Zillow and edit the home facts (adding the bathroom, garage etc), as well provide the appraisal number in the owner estimate section.  Zestimates are not calculated with information on upgrades, but may adjust if you've added square feet.   "What is a Zestimate?" is useful reading.    AVMs like Zestimates are just a starting point, and cannot reflect every aspect of the home as seen by an in person visit.
