This is one of the "it depends" type answers, so will need some detective work on your part.
To get you rolling, is the former owner's "for sale" still showing? If so, scroll to the very bottom of the property details page and click on "listing website" (in blue). Contact the agent listed in that click through and ask them to remove it from the feed. Once off the feed, it should refresh on Zillow usually within 24 h and change status so you can claim the home.
If what I wrote about isn't found, we'll go on to the next chapter of detective work.

Here on Zillow? You can only delete listing that are part of your account. However, you may try contacting tech support. Good luck.
