You contact a few mortgage brokers and ask them what you need to do.  Without looking at the weaknesses of your credit history is impossible to make any recommendations.

I would like to add from myself: don't apply for the new credit cards, because they will cost you a couple of points.

Sunnyview nailed it on the head.

Your credit score is determined by:
35% - Payment history
30% - Amounts owed
10% - Types of  credit used
10% - New credit
15% - Length of credit history

Lowering the amounts owed will help greatly.

Pay down credit cards below 30% debt to credit limit if possible. Ask credit cards to remove late payments as a courtesy. Pay all bills on time. Don't close any of your oldest accounts. MSN has other tips to raise your score that also may help.
