The best way is to be set-up with an MLS portal through a local, licensed agent. That way you can search the MLS which will have more accurate info than some syndicated sites, "favorite" properties for your agent and even schedule showings.

*Sometimes* this will work:

Go to the home page of Zillow.com and enter the city you want to search in. Click the search icon.

That will pull up all listings in the city of interest.

Click on the "More" tab (just above the map)

Put the MLS# into the Keywords" box.

Click apply.

Because of the way we're fed data, we don't always get the MLS number. And as others have mentioned, MLS numbers across the US aren't unique. By pulling up the city first, then using the MLS# as a keyword, you'll eliminate other properties with the same MLS number showing up. But again, this won't work everywhere because we don't always get the MLS number. Works in many places though.

It depends on where you are searching.  Zillow and Trulia do not necessarily use MLS numbers.  If you want to search specifically for an MLS#, I recommend Realtor.com or a website from a local Realtor.

Just remember that if you use a MLS number to find a property there can be the same number used in different MLS systems around the country. Also, when a property is under contract, sold or expired it will not be found using your search method online.

Try putting the MLS number into a search engine and see if the property comes up. You can also contact a Realtor for the information you're seeking.
