In Oroville you can go to the Butte County Assessors web site and look up the property information. It will tell you what the property taxes are and any mello roos taxes too. If you want to buy a home they will reassess the property to what you pay for it most of the time. Taxes are generally slightly over 1% plus mello roos. Mello roos are generally only on the newer houses too. As far as insurance you can enter the information into several website to get a good indication about what it will cost. Be careful giving out too much information because unless you are ready to buy now because you will get tons of emails and phone calls. Price do vary widely. I pay about $700 a year for a 2700 sq foot house just out of Sacramento but I am very near a fire station and have a fire hydrant just down the street. I also keep a fairly high deductible and the house is only about 5 years old.
