How do you find what company put replacement windows in a house I'm buying?

I'm Buying a hud house someone stole the bottom half of the windows, and instead of buying a whole new window it may be cheaper to just buy the bottom half of the window that was replace before the theives stole the bottom half.

Every Reputable window company usually puts their name on their windows.
Usually on the hardware that you use to open up the window.
If that part is still there, and you can identify the brand of window, call a dealer in your area that sells them and they should be able to help you out.

If you find the brand and post it along with you zip code, I can probably tell you were to get them from.  Some of the more contractor friendly stores like 84 lumber or Stock building supply or Norandex Renolds will send somebody out to take a look at them for free, they can see if they can identify them for you and order the replacement sash.  They can almost always get any brand that is still made.

Check with the city of Detroit inspections department. Depending on the laws in Detroit you probably would've needed to pull a permit to install windows. The permit would've been pulled by the company that did the installation. They might be able to tell you what brand of windows they installed.

Otherwise take a close look at the window and there might be a makers mark stamped somewhere on the window. There may even be a label on the outside of the window jamb but I would hate to have you pry the window out to find that its not there.
