While one can look up the original amount borrowed in a number of sources, the current amount owed is not public (thank goodness). What is your objective in the search?

Nicole you can receive that information for no-charge from your Title Rep. Ask for a Property Profile.

It's public record.
Go to your local city/county website and search for public records and mortgages more specifically.

You may look up the original note which is public record, but you certainly may not look up the current mortgage balance without a signature authorization from the current borrower on that mortgage.

I want to find out how much the original mortgage was, if there are any outstanding mortgages on the property and if so, how much is owed.

Public Record can tell you how much and when a mortgage was given. You can't find mortgages on Zillow.
