How does Zillow get their information on a house?

Last year when I looked up my house it has 6000 sqft with 5 bedrooms.  Then, a few months later it increased to 6300 sqft.  Just now, it went up again to 6500 sqft with six bedrooms.  My house doesn't grow itself! Does Zillow just set the house on a growth compounding model like what banks do with their interest?!!

Zillow gets the information from a variety of public data bases, so they are dependent on the accuracy of that data.  Unfortunately, errors are made.  The tax rolls show my house has a brick chimney, but it doesn't.

There are other issues with their information, specifically that they miss about one of four homes that are for sale, and about one in three they show for sale is not.  More on that, including the actual independent research report is at [promotional hotlink removed by Zillow moderator]
