How does refinancing remove your homestead exemption?

Someone said that in response to a refinance question and to consider that when trying to decide on refinancing.   I do not understand how that is possible.  Could someone please explain?

kvinjbj,

I agree with Bob. So long as you don't change vesting on title, you'll be ok and I wouldn't worry about your homestead suddenly changing.

Refinancing should not affect the homestead exemption. The homestead exemption comes from your declaration that it is your primary residence, and qualifies as ssuch, refinancing the mortgage would not change that.
