Zillow gets their information from the County Recorders office and there is a time lapse between the recording and the posting on Zillow that can be several weeks. It is rare that I've seen less than a month, but the latest sale I monitored was 10 days so perhaps things are getting faster. (I only monitor three or four a year.)
No, I don't know which database Zillow taps for Santa Clara county. I hope a Zillow employee wanders by and can give you some more insight.

Anything longer than 1 month makes the Zestimate useless, even for BALLPARK values. Thanks for the feedback.

Zillow picks them up when they get into the databases that feed to Zillow. I've seen this occur in as few as 10 days (in Washington state) and as long as nine months.


How long before recent sales appear on Zillow?
FOR EXAMPLE - 1630 Dovetail Way, Gilroy, CA 95020, sold on 05/23/2011 for $404,100 - see Santa Clara County Recorder Doc 21186454 . www.clerkrecordersearch.org
The values are declining so rapidly in Gilroy that old information does not reflect the current fair market value for buyers without timely updates.
