A local Realtor can check the tax records and find out what the current loans are for the property. They can not tell what type of loan it is or how much it has been paid down.
It it is a preforeclosure, those tax records may have the amount is being foreclosed on.
Also, if it is a preforeclosure, there are paid services advertised on Zillow and other places that will give you the amount being foreclosed on, but not the total debt owed.
