How much of a selling point is structured wiring for home automation?

Probably not too much because of the pace of change in that field.  Wireless technology will make most of it obsolete very shortly.  The rough-in may have some value but I wouldn't trim it out.

Hi JeanFee,

This would depend greatly on who is buying your home. It may be a great selling point for some people, but it may not matter whatsoever to others.

I have to agree with wetdawgs below. There are better things to spend your time and money on to make your home more appealing to a broad range of buyers. However, if your home automation is capable of making your home more energy efficient, then you might have a good selling point going for you in today's market.

I put wiring in all my rentals. They may not use it all but it's a fantastic selling point. I use colorful plugs to make them stand out.

Not much.   Why?   Because technology is advancing so rapidly that top of the line today may be scoffed at in five years.
