How to Deal with Bogus Property Photos and Sales Information

Profile picture for NavyRuss
As a home owner, I have noticed that Zillow's listing of my home has completely bogus photos of the property and lists sales of the property that are not in the county record and never took place.  Unfortunately, I have a nice property and Zillow's record of my property always shows photos of a considerably less desirable home.

I finally figured out the property photos and sales information Zillow shows displays under my property address was for another property in my county that sold a few years ago.  Someone must have entered the parcel number or the address incorrectly into the database and it bled into my property's information.  Have others dealt with this nightmare?  Even when I considered listing my home a couple years ago, the best I could do while the home was on the market was to add the real photos to Zillow's listing; I could never purge Zillow's record of the bogus photos.  I tracked down the realtor who sold the other property but he feigned ignorance and said there was nothing he could do.

While this does not happen often, I suppose this reminds us all that Zillow is like a Wikipedia where it is only as good as the data that is entered-- i.e. garbage in results in garbage out.  Has anyone dealt with a similar situation?  Is it ever possible to purge completely erroneous sales information and property photos that have nothing to do with a property and its government records?

A few years ago, only the one who posted the photos could remove them.  Zillow has changed that so the home owner can remove photos (with the exception of aerial view, street view and satellite view).

The approach is to claim your home and then delete the incorrect the photos.  Here's a link to the FAQ on removing photos.
