Don't feel like you're alone Dennis, I'm a Realtor and I have difficulty getting many (but not all) of the REO agents to call me back too. Your best bet would be to find and hire a Realtor who lives and works in the area you are looking to buy in. By hiring a local agent, you should find them responsive and gives you the added benefit of knowing theproblems/highlights of the area (prone to flooding, crime, etc). Also, when you buy local the money stays local, which is better for your investment and community. Interview a few Realtors to see who works best with your style,might be something as simple as how long does it take to return a phone call,experience, credentials, etc. Check out Realtor.com for suggestions in your area but watch out, I've found many Realtors who advertise in my area live 30+miles away and I've never heard of them before and I know most of the local Realtors in my area.
I would have loved to help you if you were in Atlanta. IF those agents aren't getting back you when you're a potential lead - they won't get back to you any faster when you actually have any pressing questions.I think "word of mouth" is the best referral tool for investors. Hopefully you have friends or colleagues who can help steer you toward a great agent. In my experience, they are harder to find because invetors agent has to think and work long-term instead of just getting through to the payday.Please take great care in finding and interviewing the agent before plunging into the investment business. As someone who's been on both sides of the table - I know first hand.Good luck!
