I tend to agree with Naimi. Best to start working with local lender who can look at the specific situation. A good lender can look at a poor score and tell you what moves to make to get it to 620-640. We have seen some clients improve scores rapidly by cleaning up past issues still on credit report. You would have to qualify by yourself on your own income alone if you don't want to use his credit. The good thing is that you have 6-9 months to work on his credit score to bring it up.
