How to stage a bedroom that connects to the master.

Profile picture for dkenyon992910
We have a fourth bedroom that connects to our master with french doors. It is a true bedroom in that it has a closet and separate door to the hallway, but it also connects to the master. It would make a cute nursery, although we've not used it that way. It's been my craft/sewing room. It could also be a seating room for the master, but that seems like a waste of space, really. So what are your thoughts - stage it as a nursery, or...?

I am a Realtor and Staging Professional, my thoughts go toward a sitting area for a connecting space to the master bedroom. Stock it with some comfortable seating, books, good lighting and make it blend to the master with coordinating colors and fabric. Have fun with the space and Good Luck.

I think a little sitting room or library would be most appropriate.

I think it would work great as some sort of sitting space...Where a couple can sit and relax, maybe watch a movie away from the kids. Also, you could turn it into an office space...Depending on how many rooms there are in the house, it could also be a nursery. I think a sitting space off of the master bedroom is just wonderful though.

I would stage it as a nursery, or invest a little and convert it to a forth bedroom.

I had a listing a while back with an odd room. I staged the entire home, but decided to post a flyer on the door to this room and I noted all the possible uses for it, like: office, home gym, craft room, wine tasting etc.

All open houses visitors agreed and found the information useful.

Because your fourth bedroom is connected to the master bedroom, I'd stage it as an office, study, or a sitting room. Even if your neighborhood attracts growing families, staging the room as a nursery seem a little heavy-handed, especially since you're still living in the house and you aren't expecting.

My suggestion would be to stage the room with a couple of comfy chairs, a table, a desk, a lamp, a bookcase, and a couple of framed prints; add a few books, a plant, and some a few accessories, and you'll be good to go. If you don't have extras around the house already, ask your friends or family if you could borrow any they may have in storage, buy something you can use in your new home, or check Craigslist or garage sales for inexpensive pieces you could spruce up.

Good luck!

I think wetdawgs has a great idea with the teddy bear or comfortable seating. Even a small chair with ottoman in the corner of the room with a book might suggest several uses.

You would could also sell it as a home office, sitting room, den, man cave, craft room or ? I would pick the one that you feel has the largest pool of buyers and only suggest it with an item or two in the room.

I agree with wedawgs in regards to your target buyer. With a 4 bedroom house, there is a good chance buyer pool will include a lot of families. If that is the case, a nursery would be an excellent idea. If you have an older audience, a library, office, work out space, sitting room, etc would be appropriate.

The first thing I'd ask is what is your target audience.   If families with potential tiny people, I'd make it more or less empty and put a teddy bear in the corner.     If a more mature audience, a seating area may be appropriate.

However, most lookers are pretty clever.  A clean spacious room is one where they can use their imagination.
