You can also contact Continental Credit out of Colorado who will help you improve your credit and also tell you which credit cards you should secure to get more credit.  This may be a slower way, however, once you have done this not only have you increased your FICO score to buy a house, but you get better interest rate, you could purchase a car, new furniture, etc.
Set yourself up for success!  It will help you out in the long run.

Find a reputable lender who can and will give you some guidance as to specific steps to take to improve your credit score and a time frame for those steps if you follow them.  Ask people you know who have bought houses recently as to which lender they used and whether they were happy with that lender.  That lender will look at your credit score, and review the report with you.

As a REALTOR, I have certain lenders I know who will take the time with my clients to provide that valuable service.  It's a win-win for both of us--even if it takes a year or two!
