I'm looking to buy my first house after active duty military in the USMC, do I get any benefits?

I am looking to buy a house after active duty in my home state PA with my gf.  Do I qualify for any benefits?  If so, can you please list them.

YES u do get special benefits as a vet.  You can actually get a 0% down home loan.  Ask a mortgage broker about VA loans.

Thank you for your service.  Get in touch with a good Realtor and Lender and they will go over all of your VA benefits.  Good luck with your home search!

Hi Nicholas,

Here's a great website that ought to help:

VA Loan vs Conventional Loan - Learning the Differences

There's a lot of information there, the first page is only the beginning, think you'll find the answers you need! Best wishes and thanks for your service!

First and foremost, thank you for your service to our country.  We all owe you our utmost graditude and respect.

You should check with Veterans Affairs on loan information and benefits available to you.  They would be the most reliable and accurate source.

Best of luck to you.

Just attended a wedding on 11/11/11 with a USMC groom.

if you've never used your DD214 to purchase a home before, you most definitely could use your VA benefits to purchase a home.  Putting you with a good quality lender who knows their stuff can be very beneficial to you.

Credit scores for VA loans have no bearing on what interest rate you will receive, assuming your have at least a 640 score. Borrowers with credit scores under a 640 usually must use a "subprime" lending resource and can expect to pay higher rates. For the most part I allways will suggest the borrower work  to improve their credit scores to get to the minimum needed of 640 to get the best rates. Here in Maryland the state program for first time homebuyers is 620. Wish you the best.

The main benefit to a VA loan is being able to purchase a home with no money down.  Interest rates will still be based on your credit scores.

Start with your local VA office, and they will give you a letter called a "Certificate of Eligibility" stating the maximum value of the home you may purchase under their program.  With that, you are Golden!

Interview a few Realtors, and find the one you feel you may best work with, then happy house hunting!

Hi Nick,

Hopefully you will qualify for a VA loan, great opportunity, great rates.  [contact info deleted by Zillow moderator]

Thanks and good luck, there has never been a better time to buy than now, interest rates are just unbelieveable, student loans aren't even this low.

At least one benefit would be your ability to obtain a VA loan for the home purchase.  With a 0% down payment and the potential to get up to 4% seller assist towards closing costs, you may actually be able to purchase a home with very little cash required.  Just make sure you get in touch with a good lender who is knowledgeable about VA loans and does them regularly.

A VA loan will allow you to go in with no down payment. You must meet eligibility.
Contact a good mortgage lender in your area to ask these questions.
They should know if there are any local programs available to you.
Good luck on your search for a home.
Thank you for your service to our country.
