Not a suprise, this is not the MLS and doesnt get updated so there are many homes here that are unavailable. Check local Realtor association website

I've got a great search engine for Alameda and Contra Costa counties on my website. It pulls directly from the MLS so is usually quite up to date. There are also some pre made searches (REO's short sales, fixers) as well as a map based function. You don't have to register so you can search with anonymity. Beset wishes

On any real estate site, one is dependent on agents keeping the property information up to date. Therefore, how do you avoid this? When you find properties of interest review them with your agent.

Its difficult to get accurate information from 3rd party real estate sites. The best thing you can do is find a good agent to work with. We have up to date information as to which homes are really active on the market. Good luck :)

you really cannot avoid the situation to be honest. Zillow pulls information and listings from various sources and it is not always as accurate as the proprietary MLS data that agents share. On top of that, a house can be available today and under contract tonight - there is a lag time between contract and pending status or removal from the websites.

You can't
The Zillow method is entirely dependent on agents pulling their listings either from Zillow (or the other websites where the information is populated and pulled onto Zillow) once the property is sold.
If you see a property that is sold, you can flag the property on Zillow, but that is all you can do to avoid it in the future.
There are better sites for viewing properties that are currently for sale. Realtor.com has listings pulled from local MLS sites so they will tend to be more accurate than sites that are pulling information from other sites or from agent listings.
Your Realtor may also have some local sites that might be helpful when looking for a home.

Not much can be done about accuracy in the Zillow system, best you can do is have your agent check out every property you're looking at as soon as you are interested. Agents will always have the best tools for obtaining the status of a property.

I got house from Zillow listing but when I check with my agent the house was sold 3 months ago...
