Some people on Zillow have reported that this scam is very similar to an earlier scam where a different name was being used. It really helps to have people report the scam and any changes in the "set up" so they can avoid being taken.

I jut received the same! This is a Scam! They send money, then pull out during the inspection and before their funds clear ask for their wire to be returned, then their funds bounce and the attorneys escrow is screwed!

I got the request too and he asked for any city in MD up to $500,000. At first I thought it could be legit since the number he provided was indeed in Japan, and he requested a lawyer to help him. He sent me pof that looked completely fake from a bank in Canada. I googled him and found this blog. Thank you to everyone here who took time to report this. The email was:

Be careful in even responding to these emails. Clearly none of us wants to pass up an opportunity, but if you get a suspicious feeling on something like this just report it and then let it go.

i received he same type of offer from a Hirano Ijichi from Toronto on a home here in Scottsdale, received 2 weeks ago. Checked his address on Google earth (he must live under a manhole cover in the middle of an intersection) and the CIBC Mellon account statement offered as proof of funds showed $3 million (though CIBC security said no such account existed). My broker just sent me his inquiry just received from Mr. Hiroki. Seems to be the Scam du jour.

I set him a search for the town he asked for and all the surrounding suburbs, attached and detached making sure it checks a few times a day for any new listings. Hopefully he will turn into a customer from all my email updates. Email address is apparently good as they are not bouncing back. I do not have any further emails yet from him. Maybe he wants to buy in the mutiple areas he is emailing to, so see if any of you can help him also.

There are plenty of these scam running out there, but posting email excerpts and email addresses of the scammers help people avoid the scam.
Many people end up on Zillow after a google search for the name or email and then can get information from the Zillow community so they are not scammed.

It's a scam. He offers to buy a home sight unseen, has an attorney in Canada handle the transaction, puts down a large deposit, kills the deal, and an unsuspecting title company refunds the deposit before they realize the check used for the deposit is no good. STAY AWAY
