I had issues with my credit in 2004. Will this hurt my chances now?

I was unemployed from November 2003 - March of 2004.  In that time, I was in excess of 60 days past due on my car payment on on 4 credit accounts.  I have since paid off all accounts and have not defaulted on any of them.  My current credit score average is around 650.  Will this hurt my chances of getting an FHA loan?

Given the elasped time, most likely you should be fine provided you have not had any subsequent lates.  The best thing to do is consult with a local mortgage professional recommended by a trusted referral source such as a Realtor, CPA, or Certified Financial Planner.  The mortgage professional can then run your report and quickly assess your current situation.

Your credit score should be sufficient for FHA financing, but that is only one part of the mortgage approval criteria.  This would be a good time to get a referral to a local loan officer and get pre-approved for a mortgage.
