We recently moved to Long Island form Fla. Oil heat is a killer! My home is a ranch that is 1800 sq feet. What suggestions do you have?

Thanks I read about zone heating and see the light. Now the oil heats water that travels down copper pipes loosing heat all the way, then to radiators that are 1/2 sunk in the wall heating the great outdoors.
Then finally getting to me. A stove in my living area sounds much more efficient. The local shops are out of sight expensive any recommendations on a online store

Hello Gator

Have you thought about a wood or pellet stove?
Some of those oil systems are very inefficient buy the time the actual heat gets to you it could loose 50 or 60 % if its BTUs. DO some research on Zone heating as opposed to central heat and you will see.

Simple things.

Caulk to eliminate all drafts. Perhaps spray foam is best here.
Add insulation.
Turn down the thermostat.
Replace the furnace if it is very old. Efficiency has improved greatly over the past few years.

The easiest way to save on heating costs is to move back south.
