I have a job lined up in Mira Mesa and I'm looking to move to Temecula from LA. Is this a good idea

I have a job lined up in Mira Mesa and I'm looking to move to Temecula from L.A with my wife and toddler.  I really like the Temecula, it seems very family oriented; however, I fear the drive may be too crazy.  Is there any other area close to Mira Mesa that are not too expansive?  I could only afford up to $370,000 homes and prefer 4-5 bedrooms.  We need to live in a safe and quiet community and with good school rating.   Please help.

I'm not going to lie - I'm partial to Temecula because I live here!  We have fabulous homes in your price range, great schools and it's a wonderful place to raise a family.

That said, I highly recommend that you take a rush hour drive to experience it yourself.  This town has a lot of commuters who move here for the lifestyle and better values but until you really know what you're up against there's no one who can give you the right advice...

Happy test driving!

hi there,

That will be a long commute for you. A great life for your wife and children, especially if she stays home.  You could look into San Diego couty inland. Santee area. You will get more for your buck in Temecula. The commute will be long though. Expect 1-1 1/2 hrs daily. Join a carpool.

Good luck to you!

Right now you can get a pretty decent home in Poway or Mira Mesa that meet your search criteria (4/5 BR's @ 370K).  In fact, Poway is one of the best school districts in the County.  I recommend it!  Your commute to Mira Mesa would be a snap.  Depending on where you lived you might not even need to be on the freeway!

Temecula could be a great choice because of the value and quality of life, and especially if you have flexible work hours.  We would recommend you test drive it first.  It's a 40-50 min commute with little traffic.  From temecula to escondido it's smooth sailing, but it's a traffic jam in escondido around 7-8am.  Don't buy a house until you're sure.

That is a bad commute, traffic is horrendous on the 15. I recommend trying Poway ( just a few miles north of mira mesa ) its a nice community. Or Alpine. Alpine is about 25 miles east of san diego and would be about a 45 minute drive to mira mesa but the traffic is not bad. it is a small town and everyone is friendly. and you definitly get more for your money. good luck :)

You can buy quite a bit of house in Temecula for $370,000 and the schools are top rated. Anywhere over the San Diego county line and your prices go up alot. I move to Temecula from LA in 1996 and commuted to Miramar (very near Mira Mesa) for 7 years. It is a bit of a drive (about 50 miles one way) and can take about 1.5 hrs in am and maybe 1.5 to 2.0 hrs in the evening. I since retired from that job so no longer have to make that commute so I don't have recent experience with it. I noticed that they are expanding the freeway in Escondido to help but not sure when that will be done. I recommend carpooling if you can. If you are interested in a home in the Temecula area, I would be happy to assist you. I know Temecula very well and there are plenty of homes in your price range and size.

You can put in the zip code for Mira Mesa and click go. The place mouse over "directory" and click allstars or local experts. There appear to be many professionals represented from that area on this site. best of luck
