I have an american general loan, How can I find out who owns my loan if they won't say?

I have been trying to get a loan modification through American General since September of last year.  I live in a single wide mobile home with 1500.00 a month payments and 14.5% interest on a 20 year term.  They have developed thier own "modification terms" which are no help. They also refuse to put anything in writing.
How can I get help?

btrue73,
Are you still making payments to American General?  Look at who you are making your monthly payments to each week and that will tell you who is servicing your loan.  You can then contact them to see if they will work with you on a loan modification.  If you are not deeply underwater, you could also try refinancing through someone else.  I would recommend submitting a free and anonymous loan request on Zillow Mortgage Marketplace to see if anyone is willing to refinance for you.
Thanks,
Nate

If they "sold" your mortgage, it's typically known as an assignment...you should have received a mailed notice.

Check your county's public records, such as the County Recorder or County Clerk and look up your name to see if your mortgage has been assigned (sold) to another mortgage holder. This record should give you any other companies involved with your mortgage.

Good luck.
