Unclaimed money is generally held by a state government department. In Minnesota the commerce department is the contact point for unclaimed property. Often you can search the information on the state website for free. Without knowing what state you are from or where the funds are held, I can't direct you to a specific state website, but they're not that hard to find.

good luck.

I had the same issue a long time ago.  I was approached and thought about trying to bypass to the "finder", but if you can't figure it our quickly, you are wasting your own time (money) for what really is a "find".  Think, move quickly.. then sign for the bounty and get your money.. Good luck.

Call the escrow companies that you have worked with in the past directly. They often have an unclaimed monies department that charges nothing to return your money to you as long as they still have it. If it has been too long, they turn funds over to the state unclaimed property office. Most states now have online searchable databases where you can look for lost money for free. What state are you in? You can try googling "unclaimed property" and your states name to see if it comes up. I found an old savings account that way from my last state. It was the best because it was found money :)
