I just replaced my windows with energy efficient vinyl windows. Will this increase the value?

i would look into tax benefits re obama's recovery act. i believe that energy efficient windows were heavily subsidized this year...

no, it probably wont unless you replaced like single paine windows or really poor quality windows

Typically, replacement windows are one of the worst energy upgrades you can make on a payback basis. If your old windows were not total garbage and if you had storm windows over them then it will take you quite a long time to recoup your window replacement expense via energy savings. The average vinyl replacement window has a service life of perhaps 20 years. You may not even recoup your 'investment' before the windows are worn out. Before you spend your money on your next energy efficiency venture you may want to take a bit more time on research. My hat is off to you for wanting to save energy and for being willing to spend money doing it. Best of luck.

It will increase the value to you, as you will be able to pay less in energy costs.

It may not increase the value of the home by the cost of the windows, as most homes now have energy efficient windows, and houses that do not have them, may be worth less on the market.

Houses depreciate in value, if you do not update, they become worth less.

Yes, if for no other reason than the buyers will not have figure out how to upgrade the home later.  This increases the marketability of your home.

It also decreases the need for negotiation - one less thing a buyer can oblect to.  A nicer, updated home sells faster, and less is negotiated.

Yes the value of your home will increase as long as they were installed properly.

I agree with Mike about your windows in today's market. In the NWMLS of Washington various boxes have been recently added regarding "green" options. The early stats I have pulled for a Seattle neighborhood showed the "green" house could expect 5% - 10% higher selling price (the 'green' homes also averaged smaller sq footage). For many this may not repay the "green' investment immediately. However these efficiencies certainly repay over time. My opinion is that energy efficiencies like windows and insulation will continue to provide home owners up front added value in future.

It may increase the value of your home, but not as much as a kitchen remodel, bathroom remodel or a master suite addition.

What it does do is make your home more salable because it's updated and because your energy bills will drop, which is a bonus to any buyer. And with the energy savings, they will pay for themselves in as little as five years.

Are you taking advantage of the $1,500 tax credit which you may be eligible for since you replaced windows?
