I need to select a professional agent in the Fort Myers, Fl area - Don't know where to begin

Profile picture for Uleau
I'd like to visit the area in Florida for a few days in the beginning of Feb to get a feel for the neighborhoods and market, tour some modest homes and potentially sign an agreement of sale.
I'd like to find someone that is professional, motivated, has experience with short sales, and knows the real estate market in Lee county.
My dilemma is that I don't know anyone there for a trustworthy referral.  Any thoughts on referrals or where to begin?
Thanks for your help.

do you have a new employer in Florida?  maybe someone there could give you a good referral-  most large realestate companies have websites where you can "find a Realtor"  read their profiles- find a few you like- call at least 2 or 3 to find out how long they have worked in that area- total sales- and see if you click with any of them!   the best of luck to you!

If it was me, I would probably call the company I am a Realtor with,  because I know that they are well trained...that is not self promotion, that is what I would do. I would also sit and interview the agent or call them on the phone, take a half hour, ask them about the areas, ask to see charts of what is selling what isn't selling. Ask them what is the percentage between ask and what it sells for.Ask them if they feel confident in handling a short sale, ask them what their support network is like in the office. I am assuming you have purchased before? So you probably have an idea of how to negotiate. Ask your potential agent what relationships they have, can they recommend several home inspectors, closing attorneys, termite inspectors etc. Ask them to send you a link to demographic breakdowns for the areas you are interested in. Feel free to call me if you want to pick my brain. i don't sell in that area, but I do own a home in Florida and envy your potential move.
Good luck to you!

If you know of other agents that is professional and good, those will be a good starting point to ask for referral or if they know of any other person to ask for referral.

Call a brokerage or two up and ask to speak to the managing broker. Ask for the 2 recommendation of the kinf of agent you are looking for.

Interview all on the first day and select 1 or 2 to work with.
