There are credit restoration experts out there, however your best bet would be to have an experienced lender assist with credit restoration who provides his/her services at no cost to you as a thank you for allowing them to earn your business.  Also if your credit is only a 580 it is also very likely you are able to get pre-approved for a loan, however you must be financially stronger in other areas.

There are free sites on the internet where you  can learn about improving your credit.  Do not pay anyone to do it for you.

Start by requesting your free credit report from each of the 3 bureaus.  TransUnion, Equifax and Experian.  You can find links to them by googling them.

Review your credit and highlight any collections or late payments.  You cannot have any late payments in the 12 months prior to applying for a mortgage.  Make a list of what you have to clean up.

There will be sample letters on line to help you communicate with collection companies and credit bureaus.

If you have collection accounts "Free Credit Repair" sites can help on understanding how to negotiate a pay off.  Some times you can actually satisfy the debt for less than you owe.

Good Luck

You need to speak with a few lenders, so they can guide you with your credit.  Contact a few mortgage brokers and discuss your financial profile with them.  Good luck!
