Do you stay at this home more than six months out of the year-even if you stay at another place the rest of the time you MAY qualify if it is the only home you own. You must meet some other rules but it might be worth talking to your tax professional.

You have to live in the home you recently purchased in order to receive the 10% or $8000 tax credit, whichever is lower.

Has the home in another state been used as your (you and/or your spouse) residence at any time during the last three years?    If so, you would not be eligible.  If not, you might be.
