As a homeowner you are able to negotiate your own shortsale, however most homeowners that don't know much about real estate don't know much about the shortsale process, and therefore makes the process more difficult for the bank, seriously lowering your success for an approval. additionally, the bank has the ultimate decision on who is the buyer.
