Ok, first of all, you need to find out if the improvements you have in mind qualify for the incentive programs.
The incentive is for projects that increase energy efficiency: insulation, replacement windows, energy efficient HVAC systems, etc.

Tip: Using google you can restrict you searches to the .gov top level domain (TLD) by specifying "site:gov" along with your search. For example, 'home improvement site:gov' will return all relevant hits found on sites that end with .gov.
You can also restrict you searches to local state government by using <two letter_state_abbrev>.us. For example, 'home improvement site:nj.us', will restrict to local government sites in New Jersey.

It probably is not as easy as it may sound but certainly worth some efforts. As Pat mentions, getting with a banker that really knows there stuff is good but also know that you may need to do the research on-line and do some educating yourself to help the bankers know what they can do for you. And, yea, the governement web sites end in .gov. You can always trust the content of those sites because knowone else can use the .gov TDL.

Go to your local bank or mortgage company to find out what home improvement loan programs you qualify for. If you are looking for a government web site, they all end in .gov.
