IL strategic default

Profile picture for Jill K. Harris
I know that IL is a RECOURSE state so I am wondering if I own 2 more homes in another state (live in one) can they take it? Garnish my wages? My loan is serviced by one company but it is Fannie Mae.
My situation is different in that my reasons are that I had a major disaster in my house that was empty and being sold. The insurance did not cover this disaster so I had no money to repair what is now a gutted house (20-40k repairs). I am still paying the dry out bill. The house was undeerwater even when I was selling it, I was coming to the clsoing table with 8k. I stopped paying mortgage last June and qualified for short sale but the appraisal was way too high and all offers are off by 20k. Lender won't budge, then we tried deed in lieu and answer was no due to gutting of home. So now it will foreclose. I don't want to file bk (it will affect my employment) but if they will come after me I may not have a choice.
any advice appreciated.
