Yes. Personally I would now avoid resales and agents and go see new home builders. At least in our area, many new home builders are giving now adding on top of everything they were already giving an $8000 credit to closing upgrades etc to make up for the lost credit. You would get a new home, a warranty, upgrades and not have to go house to house with agents day after day. Just go straight to the builder!

Cindy,
I am sorry you missed it. There are some great deals available that can easily be better than the tax credit. Great deals on rates! Great time to buy.

Hi Cindy!
The tax credit is over. It was nice for those that could take advantage of it. But, in my opinion, here in upstate New York, with the combination of the great interest rates and the advantage of our reasonably priced homes we have available, it is still a stellar investment to purchase a home here and still have the tax advantages of owning a home we always have had.

Adding to what Ronda already said below, there are many incentives for 1st time home buyers. But, don't forget about interest rates, they are at an all time low! This is a great time to buy a home.

Hi Cindy.
I'm afraid the First Time Buyer Tax Credit has expired. There are some very good buys on homes out there, though.
Depending on what part of the country you're in, there is help for first time buyers in the form of bond money. Here, in Northeast Florida a first time buyer can get up to $25,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance. Contact a local lender to see if they have any programs like that. If you're in the Jacksonville area, give me a call and I'll be happy to help.
