If you are in the market to find a place to rent how do you go about looking for one.

I am interested to see how people are going about finding a place to rent.   Are you riding around the neighborhoods you are interested in living and looking for For Rent signs, are you looking on the internet, do you look in the newspaper, do you contact property management companies that you are referred to by your friends and family?

According to our agency, Prudential Douglas Elliman, most customers are searching the internet for sales and rentals.

Craigslist is a very good way to start. Local newspapers are also good. Ask questions to anyone within an earshot. That could be a very good source. Also, look up local property management companies.

Craigslist is a great source or hire a realtor. They will get paid usually by the landlord.

As an agent in the SouthBay area I use either Craigslist or the open market listing services.  If you are looking in a area with very low vacancies I have found just driving and looking to be somewhat effective.  Good Luck on your search.
