Unfortunately, this is not unusual with loan modifications from my experience with past clients who have then opted for a short sale. The banks seem to uniformly do this and it may not have a good outcome for you. I would seek legal counsel sooner rather than later, if you need a good real estate lawyer who deals with these issues I can give you a few names.

Bubba, I would forget about contacting anyone without a license number listed in their Zillow profile. They are probably just blowing smoke and looking for a quick buck at someone else's expense.
Someone who could really help you would have a license listed and a way to check their qualifications.
