we are trying to figure out how much the SQ ft would be for our tobe built home and should we be including the Basement and Garage in this calucualtion. we do have a extra morning room and possibly a solarium so the basement gets bigger. so should we include the basement SQft when comparing houses in Maryland and getting a $$/sqft estimate. please help.

Typically in the Mid Atlantic region, below grade square footage, even finished areas, are not counted in square foot calculations. Hope this helps, congrats on your new home! Jim

Basements are generally not figured into the total square footage regardless of whether they are walkouts, finished space, or not. Good luck!

I called two appraisers in MD, and both said you do not count even the walkout in total sq footage calculations. Jim
