Typically in the Mid Atlantic region, below grade square footage, even finished areas, are not counted in square foot calculations. Hope this helps, congrats on your new home! Jim

Basements are generally not figured into the total square footage regardless of whether they are walkouts, finished space, or not. Good luck!

I called two appraisers in MD, and both said you do not count even the walkout in total sq footage calculations. Jim

hi thanks for the response, if the basement is walkout is it considered below grade?
In carroll county MD do they count SQ ft for unfinished walkout basement?
