I have been looking at 3 homes for sale on one particular street. Two of the three homes are correctly listed 3 bedroom & 2 bath and each average Zillow estimated at approximately $540,000. The other home is incorrectly listed as 6 bedroom and 4 bathroom as per the owners listing (the Town building inspector will not recognize the illegal 3 bedrooms and 2 baths in the basement) ....this has boosted the average Zillow estimate for this home to approximately $570,000.

How can Zillow correct this?

Zillow relies largely on owner and site user honesty. If owners are lying, Zillow can do little to control them. Many times these houses will have questions posted on their page from actual people who have seen the house or paid for inspections and then post to attest to illegal additions or inconsistent info. That way people that pull up the house on Zillow can see that others have found different information than the owner has posted. Users of the site are better policeman in that way than Zillow is as long as what they post about the house they see is based on honest information and is not being posted for nastiness sake.
