Inspection of the legal aspects of a property by a lawyer

Profile picture for sukhendu
I am a first time home buyer. One of my friends suggested that it might be a good idea for a lawyer to inspect the legal agreements specially related to a condo or TIC (area owned, city laws, HOA agreements etc.). Can anyone suggest where to look for one?

Pity that you do have a buyer agent!  The buyer agent would have guided you through the whole process.

In California attorneys do not typically review real estate contracts. However if you are going to purchase a TIC interest then you absoultely want to consult a good, local attorney to review the TIC Agreement. Same goes for buying a tenant occupied property. We have pretty stiff rent control here so you will want to know what you're getting into before you are 100% committed to the purchase.
Some lawyers here in San Francisco with experties you might consider calling: Lyssa Paul, Boyd McSparran or Ross Madden.

Sukhendu,

1 - Expect your agent/broker to review and explain all the legal agreements. Expect expertise.

2 - Google search using the phrase "san francisco real estate attorneys".

3 - $25 buys 30 minutes with The Lawyer Referral and Information Service,  A Public Service of The Bar Association of San Francisco.

4 - Empower yourself with learning.

You need to look for a local attorney that specializes in real estate. There may even be a local referral network for attorneys in the area.  Just do a quick search
.
But to answer your question.  Yes if you have any questions about your real estate transaction, speak to an attorney so you understand your rights and obligations.
